Dr Hazarika’s lyrics in digital archive

A digital archive of the lyrics of Dr Bhupen Hazarika stored in Unicode format along with the songs was formally inaugurated by Meghalaya Governor RS Mooshahary at the Dept of Information Technology, Gauhati University today.

The archive has the lyrics and songs in alphabetical order, and one can access those at the website www. bhupenhazarikadigitalarchives.org.

Addressing the function, Mooshahary said that there was an urgent need to expand and promote the timeless compositions of the legendary singer-musician, and that the digital archive would serve that purpose to a great extent.

Lauding the role of the IT dept of GU, Mooshahary said that storing the lyrics in Unicode format would facilitate flexibility and availability of the resources in a universal format so that those could be used, disseminated and analysed by anyone anywhere.

GU Vice Chancellor Okhil Kumar Medhi also addressed the function among others.

Meanwhile, legions of fans of music maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika will assemble in different parts of the city and the State tomorrow to pay homage to the maestro on his first death anniversary.

The AASU will observe the occasion before the statue of Dr Hazarika at Dighalipukhuripar by lighting 10,000 earthen lamps, followed by a cultural evening.

The Latasil playground will witness a function under the aegis of the Bhupen Hazarika Sahitya-Sanskriti Mancha. There will be elaborate programmes at the Jalukbari Samanway Kshetra and Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, among others.

The Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) and Pragjyotish Communication will also observe the day with different programmes at the Karmachari Bhawan and the Vivekananda Kendra respectively.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will inaugurate the first Dr Bhupen Hazarika Memorial Lecture and a cultural programme at Rabindra Bhawan at 4.30 pm.

Director General of IIMC, New Delhi, Sunit Tandon will deliver the memorial lecture on ‘Reflections on the State of Television News in India.’
