The State Health Department has hooked up city’s Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital MMCH with the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) as an extended wing of the latter to save the Medical College Hospital from the surge of patients and to ensure better healthcare services to the patients.
Official sources here said that the arrangement has been made in view of the heavy rush of patients to the GMCH.
Besides, sources said, the 108 Mrityunjoy Boat Ambulance service has been started between North Guwahati and Guwahati from today.
The MMC has started functioning as the extended wing of the GMCH with effect from today with seven departments, including the department of surgery, that are equipped in a manner that matches with the departments of the Medical Colllege.
In addition to its existing doctors and services, the MMC will now on provide treatment by all the specialist doctors of the GMCH and it will have outdoor and indoor patient departments, surgery, mother and child care, eye care, ENT, paediatric and orthopaedic services. It will have facilities for diagnosis of the diseases through radiology, pathology, micro-biology and bio-chemistry, sources said.
The boats of the 108 Mrityunjoy Boat Ambulance service introduced from today between North Guwahati and Guwahati will reach the southern bank of the Brahmaputra at Guwahati in 10 to 15 minutes time. Each of the boats will carry patients with a maximum of two attendants. After reaching the southern bank, the 108 Mrityunjoy Ambulance will take the patients to the nearest hospital.
This Boat Ambulance service is equipped with emergency medical care services and it will be made available on the advice of a doctor, sources said.
