Sattriya evening at Chatiya enthrals audience

A fascinating evening on Sattriya dance and music was organised recently at Chatiya Natya Bhavan, which enthralled the audience for more than two hours at a stretch.

Organised by Sattriya Kendra of Guwahati, Centre for Sattriya Dance, Music and Theatre, Traditions of Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi, the National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama in association with Cultural Centre of Jamugurihat, Government of Assam and Chatiya Natya Samaj, the unique show evinced keen interest among the connoisseurs of Sattriya culture.

A Gayan Bayan led by Prabhat Kakati of Sri Sri Balaguri Sattra Sanskriti Bikash Samiti, Balaguri Sattra, Naryanpur, Lakhimpur, a Bargeet by Gunindra Nath Ojah of Barpeta, a khol badan of Ghosha Dhemali and Deva Dhemali in Dharam Jeuti Taal by Bhudev Das and his group from Barpeta and four Sattriya Dances, Krishna Vandana, Kara Tala Kamala Chali Nach, Ram Vandana in Naadu Bhangi, and Jhumura etc. and Bhakti presentation of Sattriya Akademi group of Guwahati by Natyacharya by Padmashree Jatin Goswami, a Sangeet Natak Akademi award winner kept the audience spell bound.

The show was started by Dulal Roy, project director of the Sattriya Kendra, an eminent personality of drama, cinema and research of Assam and was anchored by Raju Das, coordinator of the Kendra and was inaugurated by Prem Narayan Goswami, a Sattriya personality and former secretary of Jamuguri Sahitya Sabha. Members of Chatiya Natya Samaj, including its president Padma Hazarika and secretary Mrinal Goswami profusely thanked the artistes for their sterling performances.
