Govt fixes maximum fare for passenger vehicles

The Government of Assam has issued directions to the State Transport Authority, Assam and the Regional Transport Authorities of Assam on fixing of maximum fare realizable for different categories of vehicles. The rates are inclusive of all taxes, an official press release said.

As per the schedule, the Government of Assam has fixed not exceeding Rs 0.79 per passenger per km for ordinary stage carriage; not exceeding Rs 0.86 per passenger per km for long distance Stage carriage, Express buses with limited stoppages; not exceeding Rs 1.06 per passenger per km for long distance Stage carriage, Delux Super Express, All Assam Tourist Omnibus, All India Omni bus (Night Service); not exceeding Rs 1.23 per passenger per km for Executive Class (A/C); not exceeding Rs 1.32 per passenger per km for Hill Areas; not exceeding Rs 0.75 per passenger per km for All Assam Omni tourist vehicles (TATA 407) Mini Bus; not exceeding Rs 0.75 per passenger per km for ordinary contract carriage bus and sub-urban buses.

On the other hand, for petrol operated tourist taxi and local taxi the rate is not exceeding Rs 30.00 for the first km and Rs 16.25 for every subsequent km; for diesel operated tourist taxi and local taxi the rate is not exceeding Rs 22.50 for the first km and Rs 10.00 for every subsequent km; for Tata Sumo Taxi/cab the rate is not exceeding Rs 1.50 per passenger per km and for Vikram Diesel three-wheeler etc with 7 passenger seating capacity the rate is not exceeding Rs 7.50 per passenger per first 3 km and Rs 2.50 for every additional km.

Regarding City buses, for 0-3 km route length the rate is not exceeding Rs 4.38 per passenger per km, for 3-5 km route length the rate is not exceeding Rs 6.25 per passenger per km, for 5-9 km route length the rate is not exceeding Rs 8.75 per passenger per km, for 9-13 km route length the rate is not exceeding Rs 11.88 per passenger per km, for 13-17 km route length the rate is not exceeding Rs 15.00 per passenger per km, for 17-21 km route length the rate is not exceeding Rs 18.13 per passenger per km and for Rs 21-25 km route length the rate is not exceeding Rs 21.25 per passenger per km.

In case of low floor vehicle, for 0-3 km route length the rate is not exceeding Rs 7.50 per passenger per km, for 3-5 km route length the rate is not exceeding Rs 8.75 per passenger per km, for 5-9 km route length the rate is not exceeding Rs 12.50 per passenger per km, for 9-13 km route length the rate is not exceeding Rs 15.00 per passenger per km, for 13-17 km route length the rate is not exceeding Rs 18.13 per passenger per km, for 17-21 km route length the rate is not exceeding Rs 21.25 per passenger per km and for 21-25 km route length the rate is not exceeding Rs 23.75 per passenger per km.

For the share taxi Trekker the rate for first 4 km is not exceeding Rs 7.50 per passenger and for every subsequent km not exceeding Rs 1.25 per passenger per km.

And for the Auto Rickshaw, the rate is not exceeding Rs 20.00 for first km against the meter reading of Rs 15.00 and not exceeding Rs 1.90 for subsequent 200 meters or part thereof. Detention charges of Rs 3.60 for every 10 minutes or part thereof. Night service from 9 pm to 5 am 50 per cent above the normal rate prescribed.

As per the guidelines, the stage carriage/express day services should not have any stoppage below 40-50 km, stretch of journey; no bus service should be eligible for express day service which operates on less than 150 km of route length; stage carriage/express night services would be operated by only luxury buses, which may conform generally to the standards prescribed for tourist Omni buses and must operate more than 200 km, with only maximum three stoppages en-route. The fares specified shall be effective from the date of the notification, said the press release.
